5 Daily Steps to Boost Your Following on Mixcloud

1. First Discover 40 DJs

To discover other DJ: After your categories, select your genre.

  • Utilize the search function and categories to find DJs. This can help you identify other Dj who are creating Shows in a similar genre or style.

To find DJs similar to your level, make sure you choose “Latest” not popular when you search!

  • Look for Djs with a similar following to yourself.

Djs with a large following may be less likely to notice or engage with new followers and comments, whereas Djs with a smaller following are more likely to appreciate the engagement. It will be clear why this matters in a minute.

  • Focus on DJs who have recently released new show. Many DJ who made their show a year ago or longer may not be on Mixcloud anymore. It's best to prioritize those who have recently uploaded new songs.

To do this, make sure you find with DJs who has a show no longer than a month ago. Or find Dj who is doing live streams now!

2. Like and comment on at least 20-30 of the 40 DJ you've found.

Like songs liberally!

  • Make use of the "like" liberally, as it is a quick and easy way to show support for an DJ’s show.

  • Take the time to listen to the shows and leave thoughtful and specific comments. General comments can be nice, but more specific feedback can be more engaging for the DJs and other listeners.

  • Consider following the Djs whose show you truly enjoy, as it will make it easier for you to stay updated on their future releases and activities as well.

3.  Collaborate once a month, using one of two methods:

  1. Cold messaging: directly reach out to Djs whose show you enjoy and whose style aligns with your own. When crafting your message, be sure to include information about the kind of show you make, your reasons for wanting to collaborate with that particular DJ, and ways for them to contact you.

  2. Using existing connections: if you have already established a relationship with an DJ by liking, commenting, or reposting their show, you can reach out to them privately to inquire about collaborating.

For cold messaging, aim to reach out to 4 DJs per day. This will help you build a large pool of potential collaborators, even if the response rate is low.

For using existing connections, reach out to 2 DJs per day. This will allow you to build on existing relationships and may help you find collaborations faster than cold messaging.

Example of message:

"Hi, I am [Your name]. I've been listening to your show and find it very [interesting/inspiring/etc]. I've been making shows in [genre of music] for a while now and would love to collaborate with someone like you. If you're interested, please let me know! Here's my contact info: [Your contact info]."

4. Make it a daily habit to work on your DJ skills

One of the biggest obstacles to consistently being talented DJ is the idea that inspiration must strike before you can begin. However, it's important to remember that inspiration often comes from putting in the work and showing up to create, even on days when you don't feel particularly inspired.

The goal is not only to dramatically increase the number of shows you create, but also to increase the number of hours you spend working on your skill every day.

Aim to spend at least 1-2 focused hours each day on your craft, whether that's recording, mixing, or mastering.

By putting in the time and effort consistently, you'll be more likely to improve your skills and create better experience for your fans.

Even if you don't feel inspired on a particular day, stick to your schedule and keep working. Inspiration will come.

5. Continuously learn and grow as an DJ.

  • Pay attention to popular DJs in your niche who are consistently producing high-quality SHOW.

  • Analyze their work. Figure out what makes it successful and what you can learn from it. Take note of specific elements such as song structure, instrumentation, and production techniques that you can apply to your own show.

  • Also stay up to date on the music industry and marketing strategies. Read articles and resources that can help you like this one.

The music industry can be competitive, but with the right tools and strategies, you can set yourself apart and build a dedicated following on Mixcloud.

Let me remind you that becoming a successful DJ is not a pipe dream. It's a reality that you can achieve with consistent, hard work and a willingness to take control of your music career.

I encourage you to take the time to discover new Djs, engage with them, and collaborate with them. And don't forget to put in the hours to work on your own skill, learn and grow as an DJ, and actively promote your music on various platforms.

So go out there and take action, don't wait for inspiration, it comes when you start working.
